His experience leading teams through every stage of growth, from early chaos to global scale, makes him an invaluable addition to Bisly at this pivotal moment in our journey.
We sat down with Tarmo to discuss his background, what drew him to Bisly, and how he envisions shaping the future of technology and innovation with us.
Please share a bit about your professional journey and the key experiences that have shaped your leadership in technology?
Over the years, I’ve had the chance to grow with some amazing Estonian tech companies – Skype, Pipedrive, Starship, and Veriff. What made it special was seeing the full spectrum of growth: from early-stage chaos to the challenges of scaling globally. Working those transitions taught me that there’s no one-size-fits-all playbook. Each stage needs a different mindset, and the best leaders know how to adapt without losing the core culture. I was lucky to work with some of those leaders, and they showed me the value of trust, clarity, and giving teams real ownership. That’s the philosophy I bring with me today, and it’s what I aim to apply at Bisly.
What attracted you to join Bisly and how do you envision your role as CTO here?
What drew me to Bisly is the combination of its people and vision. The company has already attracted amazing talent, and the challenge of blending hardware, software, and services into something new is exciting. What makes it even more meaningful is the impact we can have on energy conservation, helping buildings become smarter and more efficient.
As CTO, I see my role as building a strong bridge between business and technology. My goal is to align engineering decisions with strategic objectives while creating an environment where innovation thrives.
I want to bring the lessons from my past journeys to help our engineering team scale effectively and earn respect as one of the best in the industry.
What excites you most about leading technology at Bisly?
What excites me most is the real-world impact we can make. The work we do at Bisly is not just about building great technology; it is about enabling smarter, more energy-efficient buildings. That means reducing waste, lowering costs, and contributing to a more sustainable future. For me, that is incredibly motivating because it combines technical innovation with a meaningful purpose. I see a huge opportunity to lead the industry in this space.
How do you see Bisly’s technology approach differing from other companies you’ve been part of?
Bisly’s approach is unique because of its scope. We are not just focused on one layer of technology; we work across hardware, embedded systems, cloud, and mobile, each with its own challenges. Bringing all these together into a seamless solution requires a mindset that embraces complexity and integration. That approach is what sets us apart and drives innovation in ways that single-focus companies cannot match.
From your perspective, how can Bisly’s solutions redefine the way people think about modern, sustainable living?
It’s not just about technology; it is about creating a future where sustainability feels natural and intuitive. When people realize they can live comfortably while reducing their environmental impact, without compromise, is when we truly redefine modern living.
Looking ahead, what impact do you hope to achieve for Bisly as a company and for the wider industry?
For Bisly, my goal is to use the experience I have gained from previous growth journeys to support the scaling of our engineering organization and contribute to the overall growth of the business. I want to help build a team and a culture that will deliver world-class solutions and drive innovation.
For the wider industry, I believe smart buildings that seamlessly integrate into our daily lives will become the standard sooner rather than later. Our work at Bisly will accelerate that shift by showing that sustainability and comfort can go hand in hand without compromise.
